The interest in studying heritage, considered a source of artistic vision linked to cultural roots, represents the aesthetic forms of cultures that express a cultural meaning. It is also the result of historical and ideological intellectual contents, in addition to its embodiment of human meanings and values, to confirm man’s control over his environment and resources and to benefit from and interact with them.
The jewelery of the Tuareg tribes that inhabit the Sahara in North and Central Africa represents a vision that carries aesthetic values and functional concepts and is characterized by authenticity.
The Tariq people are of Semitic origin and have preserved their original cultural identity. They adhere to their language (Tamasheq), and the letters of this language are called (Tifinagh), making them one of the rare African peoples who possess a clean alphabet whose existence dates back to three thousand years BC. They are considered a Muslim people, and despite that, their customs and beliefs reflect. Presence of some pagan customs, beliefs, and symbols.
Tuareg jewelery is characterized by jewelery worn by men, women, and children. It is characterized by its many types and the beauty of its designs, which are characterized by a simplified geometric character. Most of them are made of pure silver and are distinguished by size. They contain various symbols inspired by the desert environment. Many types of jewelry among the Tuareg are believed to bring goodness and fertility. And protection.
To achieve the research hypothesis and its objectives, the researcher followed the following steps in the form of five chapters that included the following:
Chapter One: Research Topic:
This chapter includes an introduction to the research and its methodology by presenting the background of the research, which revolves around the Tuareg tribes, their location in the Sahara Desert, their ethnic origins, their language, and the silver jewelery that distinguishes them from various populations of the world, in addition to their customs, traditions, and beliefs, and the extent of their influence on their jewelery.
This chapter also included the research problem, objectives, importance, hypotheses, limits, terminology, and studies related to the research topic.
Chapter Two: An anthropological study of the Tuareg tribes:
This chapter includes the definition of the Tuareg, their geographical location, origin and lineage, the origin of their name, the most important names by which they are known, a description of the Tuareg community, and the political, religious, social, cultural, and economic factors.
Chapter Three: A study of the Tuareg tribes’ ornaments and their various meanings:
Jewelery among the Tuareg, cultural influences in Tuareg society, their impact on the formulation of jewelery, and the association of jewelery with beliefs, customs, traditions, occasions, and daily life.
And get to know the most important types of Tuareg jewelery: (head, neck, chest, limb jewelry, and costume accessories).
And learn about the materials used in Tuareg jewelry: (silver, copper, precious stones, and shells).
Techniques used in Tuareg jewelry: (waxing, casting, sawing, engraving, welding, and inlay).
And the decorations used in Tuareg jewelry (geometric, floral, cosmic, and animal decorations).
Chapter Four: An analytical study of selected Tuareg tribal jewelry:
This chapter includes an analytical study of a selection of Tuareg tribal jewelry. The chapter contains fifteen models of Tuareg tribal jewelry, including jewelry for the head, neck, chest, and limbs and costume supplements.
Chapter Five: Self-experience:
This chapter includes the researcher’s practical application, findings, and recommendations.
