Abstract The introduction of multi–detector row CT scanners has substantially improved CT venography and become an accurate imaging modality in the assessment of IVC disorders The aim of our study is to determine the diagnostic value of MDCT in detection, characterization and differentiation of inferior vena cava lesions. This study included thirty patients (18 male and 12 females ) with IVC lesions with or without signs and symptoms of IVC abnormality. All patient underwent MSCT angiography with a 128 multidetector row CT scanner. Tumor thrombus was the most common IVC lesions detected in eight patients while bland thrombus represented by seven patients as well as Budd chiari syndrome represented by seven patients. In conclusion, MDCT shows accurate diagnosis in all patients in detection, characterization and differentiation of IVC lesions and anomalies as well as to describe their extent longitudinally and circumferentially, determining the surgical approach if needed, and this diagnostic value was proved with conventional venography and histopathological correlation. |
