Abstract from October 2021 to May 2022 a prospective randomized study to compare between interlocking nail and distal tibia locked plate with MIPPO technique for distal tibia extra articular fractures was conducted. All patients were preoperatively evaluated clinically and radiologically. They were then randomized to one of two groups, operated upon, and followed up for at least 6 months. When the demographic data of the two groups were compared, no significant difference was found between the two groups regarding age, sex, and co-morbidities. No statistical significance was also found between the two groups when they were compared regarding the fracture side, the mode of trauma, open or closed, the fracture pattern according to AO classification, and the association of fibular fracture. Fixation by IMN was superior to fixation by distal tibia locked plate with MIPPO technique in terms of time for union and infection complications. While the distal tibia locked plate with MIPPO has less malalignment complications and less in cost than IMN. We found very close results between the two techniques in terms of stability of reduction, operative time, and OMAS scoring system. |
