Abstract In this thesis, nanocrystalline thin films of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) doped with the rare-earth (RE) elements lanthanum (La), erbium (Er), and ytterbium (Yb) were fabricated on glass substrates via a sol-gel followed by dip-coating technique. The RE-doped V2O5 thin films were crystallized into REX.nH2OV2O5 (0≤ x ≥ 1). Two sets of samples are prepared - one with a fixed La dopant and varying dopant concentrations of 0.25 mol%, 0.50 mol%, and 1.0 mol% La to study the impact of La concentration; and another set with 1 mol% doping concentrations of La, Er, and Yb to elucidate and compare the effects of different RE dopants. The structural, optical, and electrical properties of each set were investigated. |
