Abstract Evaluating stroke patient assessment data and functional status,. Therefore, the aim of this study was to: assess the relation between patient assessment data and functional status for stroke patients. The design of this study was a descriptive exploratory research design. This study was carried out in Neurological department at neurology, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery Hospital at Assuit University. Three tools were utilized to collect data: Tool (I) Patient assessment sheet and Tool (II) Modified National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (mNIHSS) and (III); 12-Item Short Form Survey (SF-12).. Main results: More than half of the studied patients >60 years old, females, attended secondary school, non-working individuals, married and with medium income, Majority of patients had a combination of chronic diseases (hypertension). Ischemic stroke was more common than hemorrhagic stroke affected left-side. Majority had a fatty diet, smokers, had moderate to severe stroke severity. A significant proportion of patients had a fatty diet and smokers. The majority of patients had moderate to severe stroke and that patients had varying degrees of impairment in different functional domain with a score of less than 50 on the SF-36 questionnaire (indicating worse health-related quality of life). There was no significant difference between both health-related QOL and total level of MNIHSS Scale total scores with males and females, different education levels (p=0.194), marital status categories and patients’ habits. There was a significant difference between both health-related QOL and MNIHSS Scale total scores with age and different occupations and their income (p=0.021).. |
