Abstract

The process of ageing is characterized by the loss of metabolic fitness and the steady decrease of physiological functions. Aging is tightly linked to the dysfunction of metabolic organs as a main risk factor for metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases in mammals.
One of the major challenges that meets elderly population is easily fatigability and chronic fatigue. Fatigue can co-exist with other clinical symptoms such depression, pain, poor sleep, and cognitive dysfunction.
Fatigue as a primary symptom has a negative effect on quality of life and has serious financial and health implications.
Chronic fatigue is the main manifestation of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and is strongly linked to systemic illnesses such as inflammation, immune-mediated diseases, cancer, insomnia, and major depression.
It is very crucial for gerontologists to early diagnose chronic fatigue among geriatric patients as early diagnosis and treatment can provide miraculous improvement in their physical capacity and quality of life.
The aim of this research was to study the prevalence of fatigue among elderly diabetic patients and factors associated with fatigue and how it affected their physical capacity and quality of life.
