Abstract

The contamination of feed samples with mycotoxins of varying concentrations
suggests possible health risks to the broiler industry. Various analytical methods
were applied for the detection of mycotoxins (afla and ochra) in commercial poultry
rations that showed variable levels of mycotoxins. The fluorometricetric assay was
rapid and reliable, while HPLC was more useful the for detection of aflatoxin
fragments. Broilers birds feed on higher mycotoxins ration showed depression,
ruffled feathers, friable liver with extended bile duct, enlarged kidney with urates
and asities in addition to very bad performance and blood, biochemical,
immunological serum parameters and histopathological changes. While the addition
of some feed additives (HASCS, yeast, probiotic and zinc) to the mycotoxin’s
rations has a highly protective effect against these mycotoxins. Mycotoxins are very
difficult to remove from contaminated commodities, so continuous monitoring is
essential and efficient protective products strategies are needed to deal with such
outbreaks.
