Abstract

Corrosion of steel reinforcements contributes to the inadequate durability of concrete structures in maritime environments. As a result, there has been a surge in interest in using Fiber-Reinforced polymer (FRP) bars in hostile settings due to their appealing mechanical properties and resistance to corrosion. However, owing to a lack of information, how fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars react when compressed is not yet understood. Due to their lower compressive strength and low elastic modulus compared to steel bars, FRP bars should not be used to strengthen concrete columns. Consequently, the primary goal of this study is to investigate the structural performance of recently developed hybrid reinforced concrete columns. A hybrid bar consists of an inner steel bar core surrounded by a layer of glass or carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (hybrid GFRP or Carbon-steel). The 8 mm diameter steel bars or hybrid-steel bars are used for the transverse reinforcement
