Abstract Breast cancer consists of a group of biologically and molecularly heterogeneous diseases originated from the breast. While the risk factors associated with this cancer varies with respect to other cancers, genetic predisposition, most notably mutations in BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene, is an important causative factor for this malignancy. Female breast cancer has been considered as the most commonly diagnosed cancer. Worldwide, there are an estimated 2.3 million new cases (11.7%) and unfortunately it is the fifth leading cause of cancer death, with an estimated 684,996 (6.9%) deaths. Breast tumors are classified based on hormonal receptors such as Progesterone Receptor (PR), Estrogen Receptor (ER) and Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) into Luminal A, Luminal B, Her 2 subtype and triple negative breast cancer. |
