Abstract

Two non-toxic newly ionic liquid compounds (BPHP and TFPHP) are corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel (CS) in 8M H3PO4, especially at 37.5 x 10-5 M with 293 K and the inhibition percent 76.19 % and 71.43 % respectively. The corrosion inhibition studied by electrochemical test such as mass transfere. The results and discuusion data show that El-Awady model was the best model of adsorption isotherm, polarization curves indicate as temperature increase the inhibition decrease and several characterizations applied to CS in acid with and without inhibitors to support the results such as Scanning electron microscope indicate the films on CS surfaces, Atomicforce micrscopy provide accurate three-dimensional topographies and UV spectral reflectance studies (Gloss value) diffuse reflectance spectroscopy of the CS surface to identify iron phosphate. On the other hand, the computational study certain the experimental data with quantum chemical descriptors, including EHOMO, ELUMO, Energy gap, chemical hardness, chemical softness, electronegativity, chemical potential, proton affinity, electrophilicity, and nucleophilicity, are efficient tools in investigations of metal corrosion. Finally the inhibition mechanism with experimental and theoretical data indicates that the adsorption is physicochemical.
