Abstract Chemical investigation of the different parts of Cynara scolymus L. led to the isolation and identification of nine compounds, eight previously reported (quercetin (1), catechin (2), cynaroside (3), rutin (4), chlorogenic acid (5), gallic acid (6), caffeic acid (7) and cynarine (8)). In addition to 7, 4’-dimethoxy flavone (9) which was reported for the first time in the species. The structure elucidation of isolated compounds was achieved by spectroscopic analysis. Compounds 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 exhibited promising in vitro acetylcholinesterase inhibition activity. Metabolic profiling of the three parts (bract, stem, and flower) of Cynara scolymus L. extract were performed using LC–ESI-MS. Comparison between the biological activity between the three-parts crude extract, its phenolic extract and silver nanoparticles of both against prostate, lung and breast cancer cell line. Results showing that the cytotoxic activity are higher in the flower extract than other parts, also, silver nanoparticles increase the cytotoxic activity of the three parts. |
