Abstract

The Red Sea is an elongated semi-enclosed warm body of water connected to the Arabian Gulf and the Indian Ocean via the Gulf of Aden in the south through the narrow Strait of Bab al-Mandab. It extends for about 2000 km long with a maximum width of 355 km. It represents the NW arm of the triple junction containing the Gulf of Aden, Red Sea and East African rift systems. Red Sea rift is one of the world’s successful rift basins, causing the splitting of the African plate from the Arabian plate and the birth of a new ocean, representing one of the youngest oceanic zones on the Earth. The Red Sea rift is separated from its northern prolongation Gulf of Suez; through the NE-oriented Gulf of Aqaba transform fault system. The northwestern margin of the Red Sea rift offers an excellent chance for studying the Red Sea rift-associated structures. Detailed geologic mapping, the timing of the geological structures and associated syn-rift sedimentation are still required. So the present study is intended to focus on the tectonic modeling and tectonic synthesis of such rift-related structures in the view of inherited fault fabrics.
