Abstract This research investigated the effectiveness of using an ESP internet-based programto develop Iraqi Police Academy Cadets’ EFL listening, and speaking skills and increase their motivation towards learning the English language. Participants of the research consisted of (60) Cadets of 3rd year Iraqi Police Academy who were randomly selected. The participants were assigned into two groups; experimental (taught by online course) and control (face-to-face instruction) or traditional instruction. The instruments of the research were an EFL listening and speaking test and a motivation scale in the form of questionnaire items to measure cadets` motivation, attitudes, and opinionstowards learning the English language. The experimental group was taught based on the ESP online program and the control group received regularinstruction. Post-test and scale were administered to both groups after the program had been applied. Results showed that the experimental group outperformed the controlgroup. This indicated that the ESP online teaching program had a significant impact on developing EFL listening, speaking skills and increased the motivation of the participating cadets. Therefore, it is concluded that using an ESP online course is effective in developingEFL listening, speaking skills for Iraqi College of Police Cadets and increases their motivation towards learning the English language. |
