Abstract One of the most often performed obstetrical procedures is induction of labour (IOL). Everyone agrees that (IOL) is recommended when foetal and maternal outcomes outperform waiting for spontaneous labour to start and expectant management. Before IOL is carried out, informed consent should be given after receiving thorough counselling on the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed procedure. Before the commencement of spontaneous labour, uterine contractions are artificially stimulated to progress the effacement and dilation of the cervix and eventually result in the birth of the feto-placental unit. |
