Abstract

Sexual dysfunction is common in patients with heart disease; it exerts adverse effects on quality of life and also causes psychotic disorders that decrease the sense of life expectancy. This problem can also affect the family and social aspects of human life (Karimi-Mooneghi, 2013).
Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a major surgical operation where atheromatous blockages in a patient’s coronary arteries are bypassed with harvested venous or arterial conduits (Hillis et al., 2011). The bypass restores blood flow to the ischemic myocardium which, in turn, restores function, viability, and relieves anginal symptoms (Alexander and Smith, 2016).
Male sexual dysfunction affects about 10–25% of middle-aged worldwide. At least 75% of patients with heart disease experience one or more types of sexual dysfunction (Doherty et al., 2011). However Egyptian studies on male sexual dysfunction pre and post CABG surgeries are scarce. So the aim of this study is to compare male sexual function before and after CABG and to determine the incidence and types of sexual problems and the possible alterations in SF after CABS.
This is a cohort study carried out at the Andrology outpatient clinic, Andrology, Sexology and Human Reproduction Department and Cardiothoracic Surgery Centre, Suez Canal University hospitals, Ismailia, Egypt .
