Abstract
Acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding (AUGIB) is a common
emergency condition that ranges in severity from mild symptoms that do
not require any interventions, to life-threatening presentations with
hemorrhagic shock that require emergency endoscopy or surgery. It has
been estimated to account for up to 20,000 deaths annually in the United
