Abstract

The difficulty of determining the factors that achieve the highest rates of safety and productivity in Egypt as a result of multiple and different criteria and different relative weights from one project to another represents a challenge in the stage of achieving safety and productivity in construction sites. There is a need to determine the relative weights of the selection criteria. This issue has been of interest for many decades and is still a contemporary topic due to the rapid modernization of construction project management. This research uses the investigation approach to achieve the objectives of the research and design and implement a questionnaire in order to collect factual information covering the relevant parties. A tota-l of 7 major criteria, and 47 sub-criteria were examined as the most important criteria. Although the study was conducted in Egypt, it is very useful for practitioners wishing to engage in construction projects in the developing region of the Middle East due to similar trends and current practices. This study is concerned with providing construction managers and professionals with recommendations in pursuit of safety and productivity in Egypt and developing countries . This study presents a systematic procedure for prequalification and performance, based on multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) that is the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Analytical Network Process (ANP). AHP and ANP are a potential decision-making method to be used in project management. The contractor prequalification problem is used as an example. A hierarchy of prequalification criteria is constructed, as well as contractors that want to prequalify a project. Prequalification criteria can be prioritized using AHP, and an ascending list of contractors can be created to choose the best contractors for project performance.. We developed another technique for selecting the right construction contractor based on the Analytical Network Process (ANP), and conducted a comparative study between the Analytical Network Process (ANP) and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP).
