Abstract Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of uneventful phacoemulsification on the morphology and thickness of the macula and the choroid . Methods In 30 eyes from 30 patients, retinal macular thickness , and choroidal submacular thickness, were measured preoperatively and one to four weeks after phacoemulsification using Optovue RTVue spectral domain optical coherence tomography. Changes in thickness of the different ocular tissues were evaluated. Results There was a statistically significant increase in mean choroidal thickness, in horizontal scans, with mean 231.787 ±42.5990 om (P<0.001), and in vertical scans, the mean increase was 239.927 ±51.3365 om (P=0.001).However, there were no significant changes in mean macular thickness which was 208.43 ± 46.269 |
