المستخلص

Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack is a serious Internet security problem; with no alert and in a short time period it consumes victims’ resources making them incapable of serving their legitimate clients. DoS attacks overwhelm their victims with fake requests to consume victim’s resources so that they become incapable of serving their legitimate clients. One category of proposed DoS defense techniques uses the group Testing theory for detecting the identities of DoS attackers among the client group quickly and with low state overhead. In this thesis, a group-testing-based DoS defense technique, namely Live Baiting, is tested in action. A concrete implementation is used to verify the algorithm’s feasibility, e ectiveness and weak-nesses. A number of issues and challenges were resolved to achieve the concrete implementation. Also the algorithm is modi ed by introducing dynamic thresh-old and tolerance degree to enhance detection accuracy. Under a high volume of HTTP tra c, the modi ed algorithm exhibited a detection accuracy (in terms of F-measure) that is improved by up to 300% as compared to the original algorithm. Finally, the research proposes a framework to implement the modi ed algorithm over the cloud. The proposal includes how the algorithm is deployed on the Cloud Foundry to achieve higher scalability
