Abstract The present study was constructed to evaluate the possible neuroprotective effect of sitagliptin, pioglitazone, pregabalin and atorvastatin against transient cerebral ischemia/ reperfusion (I/R) induced brain injury in diabetic rats. Hippocampus of diabetic rats pretreated with sitagliptin, pioglitazone, pregabalin and atorvastatin for 2 weeks before induction of I/R injury exhibited amelioration of oxidative stress manifested by decreased TBARS and NOx contents parallel to increased GSH content. Decreased inflammation manifested by decreased MPO activity as well as contents of NF{uF02D}{uF06B}B, TNF-{uF061} and IL-6 parallel to increased IL-10 content. Reduction in apoptosis manifested by decreased activities of cytochrome c and caspase-3 and decreased excitoxic amino acid glutamate |
