Abstract The following study is a numerical study is done to study the effect of changing ceiling height on the Smoke layer temperature and Sprinkler system activation ,after validating the results with the experimental work of Chi-ming Lai , Hung-Chi Su with three cases we found that the difference between the experimental results and simulation results were from 6.6 to 12.2 % difference which reflect that simulation results can be reliable in our case study, after wards we changed the height of room as the room height increase smoke temperature decrease due to heat transfer between smoke and room air we found that when height of room changed from 2.4 m to 3.4 m that smoke temperature decreased about 21 to 9.2 C depending of location of fire, which also affect the activation of sprinkler ,for this reason the recommendation of the following paper is in room where height increase the sprinkler has to quick response instead of standard response also we give recommendation that for high atriums smoke temperature might reach the atmosphere temperature meaning that the location of smoke duct at top of atrium is not always the best option |
