Abstract

Ý-cyclodextrin (Ý-CD) and 1,4-bis(8-bromohexyloxy) benzene (BHOB) ionophores are employed for preparation of four chemically modified carbon paste electrodes (MCPEs) plasticized with o-NPOE and TCP for the determination of carbethopendecinium bromide (Septonex). The four MCPEs (Ý-CD; electrode I and II and BHOB; electrode III and IV) reveals linear response over wide concentration range from 1{u00D7}10⁻⁷ to 1{u00D7}10⁻³ septonex with monovalent cationic slopes of 53.98±0.91, 55.32±1.27, 56.82±0.901 and 58.48±0.81 mV decade-1 for electrodes I, II, III and IV, respectively, and exhibit detection limit of 1{u00D7}10⁻⁷ mol L-1 for electrodes (I-IV). Moreover, the selectivity coefficient was measured using separate solution method (SSM) and the sensors were highly selective for septonex over a large number of compounds. However, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and ferric ions interfere significantly. Also the electrodes response is independent of pH in the range of 2-9 for electrodes I, II and IV but for electrode (III) the pH the range was of 2-8.They have fast response time that was 9 s for electrodes I, II and 5 s for electrodes III and IV
