Abstract

The main objective of this study is to identify the most suitable parents and their crosses as the first step of cotton breeding program aiming to improve the yield and quality by performing combining ability analysis in F1’s. A half diallel analysis were performed by crossing seven cotton (Gossypium barbadense) genotypes (Suvin, Karshenky, Australian, Giza 86, Giza 90, Giza 92 and Giza 93) following to Griffing{u2019}s approach. The parents and their 21 F1’s were evaluated in RCBD with three replications at Sakha Station Kafr El-Sheikh. According to the analysis, the cross (Australian x Giza 86) showed high significant values for mid-parents and also showed significant SCA effect as well as one of its parentsis good combiner for days to first flower, position of first node, seed and lint cotton yield per feddan and plant, lint%, boll weight and protein%, so this cross is good for improvement these traits. The cross (Karshenky x Giza 92) showed high significant heterotic values for both mid-and better-parents and showed significant SCA effects for micronaire value and fiber length.
