Abstract

Heavy metals pollution is a serious problem affects on animal health and human life. This study was designed to estimate level of heavy metal cadmium in drainage and tap water, rumen juice and blood serum of grazed sheep and investigate its effect on health status, rumen, blood parameters and serum biochemistry. For this purpose, 105 sheep were used, sheep were divided into control group (n=25) and grazed groups (n=80). Rumen juice samples were analyzed to investigate rumen metabolism. Blood samples were used to perform hematological examination on whole blood and biochemical parameters on serum. Water, rumen juice and serum were used to estimate cadmium level. Results revealed emaciation, poor body condition scores, dullness, debility and anaemic changes especially pale mucous membranes, High significant decrease in ruminal TVFAs and ammonia-nitrogen concentration while low significant increase in rumen pH values in grazed sheep compared to control group
