Abstract Introduction: The N3 potential is a negative wave has been evaluated during ABR recording and not yet been used in routine practice. It is believed to have saccular origin like VEMP. Objectives: to search for the presence of N3 potential in profound sensorineural hearing loss patients and to establish its normative values. Design: Descriptive cross sectional studyConclusion: The N3 is most probably a saccular response but may have additional generator(s) and different pathway(s) than VEMP. The N3 may become a quick vestibular (saccular) screening tool while performing routine auditory assessment by ABR for high risk population. Recommendations: Further histopathological and intraoperative studies of the inner ear to identify the additional generator(s) of N3 and its exact pathway(s). Further studies about N3 related variables and N3 promising clinical application(s). |
