Abstract

The current medical training is not enough to build the capacity of health care providers to be competent in providing updated knowledge and have skills in nutrition counseling. The objectives of the study is to assess the impact of providing updated training package to service providers on knowledge of children’s caregivers and quality of performance of service providers. The study was conducted in the center of social and preventive medicine (CSPM) malnutrition clinic. The study is an operations research-intervention study that used quasi - experimental pre - posttest separate samples design. Both quantitative and qualitative techniques were used in data collection. Quantitative data were collected during structured interview using a pre - tested questionnaire form. The total sample size was 400 cases [200 caregivers as pre - intervention group (Pre - IG) and 200 caregivers as post - intervention group (Post - IG)], with inclusion criteria of having their children 6-24 months old. Qualitative data included in-depth interview with physicians and nurses in the clinic to assess their needs for training
