Abstract

With a heritage tied to life in arid region and a well understanding of the lessons of traditional desert living, where sustainable practices and resource conservation are essential to survival in such surrounding, arise the need to properly design and assess desert communities to respect their harsh climatic nature of the region as a step in the correct road of changing. Desert cities are now facing a truly climate change making the need for sustainable landscape design urgent, a need to apply new ideas, tools and rating systems for these communities and cities. This thesis highlighted how to advance sustainable landscape as a tool able to rise to the challenges of environmental sustainability desert face, how to design and work without losing nature and help designers and landscapers to get a tangible results. This study presents a comprehensive matrix that analyses landscape in five international rating systems and promotes a new mindset for sustainable landscape
