Abstract Performance evaluation studies over fading channels have always been an active area of research in communication theory. Such studies usually involve obtaining closed - form or semi - closed - form expressions for performance metrics such as the average symbol error rate (ASER), outage probability (OP) or the ergodic capacity (EC) of single and multiple - branch receivers. Stemming from the fact that the Ü - æ fading distribution is one of the most generalized fading models recently used in the literature to describe the small scale fading phenomenon, in this dissertation, we conduct various performance evaluation studies assuming this fading model. Speci{uFB01}cally, we {uFB01}rst provide closed - form expressions for the Shannon capacity of the Ü - æ fading channel operating under three main adaptive transmission strategies. These expressions are derived for the case of no diversity as well as for selection combining (SC) diversity with independent and identically distributed - i.i.d. branches |
