Abstract

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is defined by the consistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance. It is widely prevalent in the general population; its prevalence is estimated to be about 32% among the male population in the United States and about 26% in Japan. The estimated worldwide prevalence of ED in 1995 was 152 million, and it is forecasted to increase to 322 million in 2025. There is a notable prevalence of psychogenic ED in association with pregnancy, possibly due to fear of one or both partners from a negative effect for coitus on pregnancy leading to abstinance, bodily changes in the female partner that make her less appealing to the male, and hormonal changes making her less interested in sexual activity, all leading to the hypothesized 2gestational erectile dysfunction syndrome3 GEDS
