Two experiments were set up in this study. Experiment I, was designed to test the combined effects of substrate addition and alternate day feeding strategy on growth performance of tilapia under green tank system during winter season conditions. The experiment was carried out in 18 concrete tanks (24 m3 each, 8 m length X3m width X 1m depth). The 6 experimental treatments consisted of a 2{u00D7}3 factorial arrangement (three levels of periphyton substrate (0, 33, 66% of tank surface area (= 24 m2); p0%, p33% and p66% where the superscripts refer to periphyton substrates levels) and two varying feeding schedules (continuous feeding (CF) or alternate day feeding (AD)). There were highly significant differences due to periphyton substrates levels and feeding strategy (continuous feeding (CF) and alternate day (AD)) on (FBW). CF treatment had significantly higher (FBW) (224.67 g) compared with AD treatment (192.67 g). Periphyton substrates levels affect the FBW significantly, p66% treatment achieved higher FBW (226.83 g) compared to p33% treatment (210.83 g), while p0 treatment had the lowest FBW (188.33 g). Body weight gain (BWG), average daily gain (ADG) and specific growth rate (SGR) data followed the same general pattern as FBW
