Abstract

Objective: To assess the maternal serum level of high sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and other serum biochemical markers as a useful clinical parameter in the prediction of preeclampsia severity. Results: The mean CRP level (mg/dl) was statistically significant higher in the severe group compared with the mild and control groups (p<0.05), with the values (34.81±11.76), (26.38±5.8) and (2.46±1.7) respectively (p<0.05). Also, the mean CRP level (mg/dl) was statistically significant higher in the mild group compared with the control group (p<0.05). Adverse outcomes for hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet count (HELLP) syndrome and intrauterine growth-restricted baby were statistically significant higher in the severe preeclampsia group. Conclusion: Elevated levels of hs-CRP and other serum biochemical markers (liver enzymes, kidney functions, ALP) are useful parameters in assessment of the severity of pre-eclampsia in patients at third trimester
