Abstract

Background: End-stage renal disease is the most serious consequence of chronic kidney disease. The commonest cause of mortality in end-stage renal disease is cardiovascular diseases. Thus, the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases has been extensively studied focusing on genetic factors which have a major role. One of these genetic factors is Intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1) gene, particularly single nucleotide polymorphism in ICAM-1 gene called K469 (rs5498). Objective: To study if K469E polymorphism of the ICAM-1 gene is associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk in Egyptian patients with end-stage renal disease
