Abstract

Background: Advances in surgical techniques and management have decreased the morbidity and mortality after hepatobiliary operations, however, bile duct injuries remain a major cause of postoperative morbidity and mortality. Early recognition and adequate multidisciplinary approach is the cornerstone for the optimal final outcome. Patients & Methods: A prospective study included 11 cases with severed bile duct injuries (post cholecystectomy). The suggested hybrid technique involves preoperative insertion of percutaneous transhepatic draining catheter and intraoperative introduction of this catheter into a suitable jejunal conduit. A Follow up MRCP was done at 6 and 12 months postoperative. Results: The technique showed improvement in the outcome of biliary reconstruction. Nine patients showed rapid recovery postoperatively. Conclusion: This technique anticipates good results through easy, simple and safe operative procedure that most of the average surgeons can practice; however, other techniques still have their merits according to the experience of the surgeon
