Abstract The aim of the present study is to numerically investigate the performance of a calciner used in cement industry. The calciner is a furnace placed before the rotary Kiln its main objectives are the reduction of Co2 emissions and air pollutions while enhancing the cement quality through separating the calcination and clinkering processes. Understanding the physics of flow, combustion and particulates transportation inside the calciner is of especial importance for efficient cement production. The main physico-chemical processes taking place inside the calciner are, the combustion of heavy fuel oil or coal or natural gas and the strongly endothermic calcination reaction of the raw materials. In order to conduct the present investigations the pyro - clone calciner at assiut CEMEX cement company is considered and real dimensions and operating conditions were applied |
