Abstract

The current study was designed to explore the impact of water pollution on health status of the most common fish species reared in Elibrahimia canal and its branches in rural areas at matay and benimazar cities, elminia governorate - Egypt (Map1, 2). The fish under investigations were Nile tilapia (oreochromis niloticus) and catfish (clarias gariepinus). Random water and live fish samples were collected from the targeted area; fishes were subjected to clinical, postmortem investigations. Bacteriological examination from fish lesions and internal organs was carried out. The collected water samples were subjected to detailed water analysis. The fish exhibited massive clinical picture in summer, spring, autumn and winter seasons, respectively. The examined fish showed black discoloration, erosions, exophthalmia, distended abdomen and haemorrhages all over the body parts. The target organs for isolation were liver, Kidney, spleen and muscles. Morphological and biochemical identification of bacterial isolates revealed, Aeromonas hydrophila, A. sobria, pseudomonas fluorescens, staphylococcus aureus, staphylococcus epidermidis, streptococcus iniae and Enterococcus faecalis
