Abstract

This study empirically analysed the determinants of food insecurity in Nigeria, with an emphasis in some selected local government areas of Katsina State. A number of factors such as household size, educational level, income, access to loan facilities are known to affect household food insecurity. Primary data were collected from 360 households in two communities each in six local government areas, through an oral administered questionnaire and interview. The data were analyzed using Ordered Probit model to ascertain foodinsecurity status of households. The results of analysis indicated that 25 variables were used in the study and 14 of them were significant. These are in three categories as highly significant, significant and mild respectively.
