Abstract This study was conducted to compare extra corporeal shock wave versus kinesio tape in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome in post-menopausal women. Materials and Methods: Fifty post-menopausal women with positive electro diagnostic findings participated in this study, their ages ranged from 45 to 55 years. They were divided randomly into two equal groups. group (A) received a program of 8 sessions of Shock wave Therapy on the affected wrist, 5 minutes per session that comprised 2,000 shots, at a pressure of four Bar, and a frequency of 5 Hz, 1session per week for 8 weeks. While, group (B) received kinesio tape application on the affected wrist for 3 days, then day off and then another three days each week for 8 weeks, Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire and median motor distal latency were performed before and after the treatment program for all patients of the two groups. Results: the results showed a statistically highly significant (P< 0.0001) improvement in both groups (A&B) concerning Boston carpal tunnel questionnaire and median motor distal latency. The improvement was highly significant (P< 0.0001) in group (A) when compared with group (B). Conclusions: it could be concluded that the use of kinesio taping for carpal tunnel syndrome in post-menopausal women appeared to be effective. Yet, the shock wave therapy was found to be superior when comparing with kinesio taping for carpal tunnel syndrome management in postmenopausal period. |
