Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases such as stroke, coronary artery disease, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation as well as all‐cause mortality. Purpose:to assess the effect of Pilates training exercise on serum cortisol level and blood pressure in hypertensive postmenopausalwomen.Subjects: Sixty women participated in this study (with age ranged from 50 to 60)charactered by hypertensive postmenopausal andselected from Bilbies’ Central Hospital workers and employs. Methods: subjects were randomly assigned into two equal groups. group A: thirty women with a mean age of(52.83 ± 3.89) who received hypertensive medication and selected Pilates exercise (Bent knee-Shoulder bridge -Side kick front -Side kick back-Single leg circle). Exercises connected with warming up before exercise and cool down after exercise (three times / week, for eight weeks). group B: thirty women with mean age of (53.37 ± 3.66) who received hypertensive medication only. Results:(group A) showeddecrease in Weight 2.92%, Body mass index (BMI)2.98%, Waist hip ratio (WHR)0.33%Cortisol hormone level 17.73%,Systolic blood pressure (SBP) 3.70%,Diastolic blood pressure (DBP)5.01%, Activated partial prothrombin time(PPT)7.38% and increase in prothrombin time (PT) 0.67 % (group B) showed increase in (Weight 0.64%, Body mass index (BMI ) 0.34%, waist hip ratio (WHR) 0.11%, Cortisol 10.48% prothrombin time( PT) 0.25% , partial prothrombin time (PPT) 0.28% and decrease in Systolic and Diastolic blood pressure ( SBP 0.75%,, DBP 1.73%,) Conclusions: Subjects of group A showed Pilates exercise reduced the systolic blood pressure , diastolic blood pressure and cortisol hormone In favor for group B.
