Abstract

to determine the efficacy of pulsed electromagnetic field
therapy versus low level laser therapy in the treatment of post burn tarsal
tunnel syndrome. Methods of evaluation: (Measurement of the motor
distal latencies of the medial and lateral plantar branches of the tibial
nerve). Methods: 40 male and female patients with post burn tarsal
tunnel syndrome were divided into two groups. group (A) received the
pulsed electromagnetic field therapy plus the traditional physical therapy,
group (B) received the low level laser therapy plus the traditional
physical therapy. duration of treatment was 20 minutes, every other day
for the 6 weeks as a total period of treatment. Results: Result showed that
both the pulsed electromagnetic field therapy and low level laser therapy
were effective and beneficial in decreasing the prolonged motor distal
latencies of the medial and lateral branches of the posterior tibial nerve,
both were fruitful nearly equivalent in enhancing the motor conduction
velocities of the tibial nerve. Conclusion: Both the pulsed
electromagnetic field therapy monochromatic and low level laser therapy
were effective and beneficial in decreasing the prolonged motor distal
latencies of the medial and lateral branches of the posterior tibial nerve,
both were fruitful nearly equivalent in enhancing the motor conduction
velocities of the tibial nerve.
