Abstract Web openings are used in RC beams to accommodate utilities. A nonlinear FEM is developed to simulate the behavior of RC beams with/without openings and strengthening with CFRP sheets. The developed FEM is validated by modeling 7 simply supported RC beams that were tested under four-point loadings. One specimen is a control beam with no openings. While the 6 other beams had a web opening with various dimensions and locations, two of them were strengthened with CFRP.
