Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the differences of the clinical and radiographic effectiveness
between patient-specific orbital PEEK onlay over the pre-bent titanium orbital mesh using
stereolithographic model in reconstruction of recent unilateral orbital fracture cases.
The present study was conducted on 20 adult participants; 17 male and 3 females. The patients’
selection was done through the out-patient clinics in oral and maxillofacial surgery departments of faculty
of dentistry, Cairo university and Ahmed Maher Teaching hospital, Egypt.
These participants were randomly assigned into 2 groups; the control group participants were
treated using pre-bent titanium orbital mesh using stereolithographic model, and the intervention group
participants were treated using patient-specific orbital PEEK onlay.
The clinical and radiographic parameters were observed, analyzed and carefully reported at
different follow-up intervals (1-day pre-operative, 1-week, 3-months and 1-year post-operatively).
The study shows no differences between both groups regarding enophthalmos correction,
decreasing orbital volume and in measuring the deviation of implant position from the planned site, with
superior results in decreasing intra-operative implant modification, reduction in operation time and
higher contour accuracy favoring the intervention group
