Abstract Macromastia is an abnormal enlargement of the breast tissue in excess of the normal proportion. This condition may be caused by gland hypertrophy, excessive fatty tissue, or a combination of both. Heavy and hypertrophic breasts result in psychological and physical discomfort, and are associated with a variety of symptoms ranging from back pain and intertriginous rashes of the IMF, to depression and loss of self-confidence. Because surgical treatment remains the most efficient way to relieve these symptoms, a number of surgical techniques have been described throughout years by proposing different pedicles and skin excision patterns. The key common objective of such procedures is to reconstitute a natural breast shape by removal of both excessive skin and adipo-glandular tissue while maintaining the NAC well vascularized. These techniques differ from one to another mainly by the way the NAC is transposed into its new position. |
