Abstract Aim: investigate the histopathological effect of sofosbuvir compared to sofosbuvir combined with ribavirin on submandibular salivary glands of albino rats. Methodology: 21 male albino rats were classified into 3 groups. Control group consisting of 5 rats, group A received sofosbuvir at a dose 40 mg/kg/day for 5 weeks and group B received sofosbuvir at a dose dose 40 mg/kg/day and ribavirin at a dose 30mg/kg/day for 5 weeks. Histopathological examination of all groups was performed at 5 weeks. The histological changes were evaluated histomorphometrically in term of acini per field and nuclei per acini. Salivary amylase enzyme was measured using Polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Immunofluorescent microscope was used to determine amount of IgM. |
