Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the benefits effect of dietary supplement on general physical activity versus aerobic exercise in elderly. According to the design of the study 40 subjects were selected from department of physical therapy in imbaba hospital at Giza zone in Egypt, they are referred from outpatient medicine clinic their age from 65 to 75 years old, all of them come to the hospital suffering from decrease in the general physical activity, their mean (BMI) (25-29) kg/m2 and assigned into two groups (A &B) with 20 subjects in each group. but there is 3 men and 3 women did not continue from the program in group (A) so the number of the participated subjects in this group become 14 subjects (7 men {u2013} 7 women) both Groups received aerobic exercise in form of (treadmill) for 3 times per week for 12 weeks in addition to dietary supplements (omega 3 plus and glucosamine) for group (B) only. The following parameters including cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein, total protein, blood urea, were assessed befor and after management in both groups. Results :- group (A) decreased on cholesterol (1.99% men- 2.38% women) (1.39% men- 1.64% women) group (B), decreased on triglycerides (0.23% men-1.99% women) group(A) (0.66% men- 1.52% women) group(B), increased on HDL(7.07% men- 16.33% women) group(A) (14.46% men- 6.53% women) group(B), decreased on LDL (16.46% men- 7.78% women) group(A) (4.09% men- 8.97% women) group(B), increased on total protein (3.37% men- 0.81% women) group(A) (0.84% men- 2.74% women) group(B) , and decreased on blood urea (3.21% men- 2.90% women) group(A) (7.50% men- 8.38% women) group(B). 6 minutes walking test results: the improvement percentage in men group (A) increased (6.66%) and women in the same group increased (6.34%). improvement percentage in men group (B) increased (6.82%) and women in the same group increased (6.56%), the Conclusion:- physical activity in both groups had significant improved results but increase in group (B)
