المستخلص This study was conducted to evaluate body balance in postmenopausal women with normal and low bone mineral density (BMD). A sample of sixty postmenopausal women aging 50 to 65 yrs were assigned according to the assessment of BMD by Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) into 3 groups: normal BMD group (T- score >-1), osteopenic BMD group (T- score < -1 and >-2.5) and osteoporotic group (T- score<-2.5). Evaluation was performed through assessment of balance using Biodex Balance System as overall stability index (OSI), anterior- posterior stability index (APSI) and medial- lateral stability index (MLSI). Results revealed that: Overall stability indices showed non significant difference between normal group and osteopenic group, normal group and osteoporotic group, osteopenic group and osteoporotic group (P= 0.568), (P= 0.992), and (P= 0.697) respectively and Anterior/ posterior stability indices showed non significant difference between normal group and osteopenic group, normal group and osteoporotic group and osteopenic group and osteoporotic group (P= 0.703), (P= 0.849) and (P= 0.411) respectively. Medial/ lateral stability indices showed non significant difference between normal group and osteopenic group, normal group and osteoporotic group and osteopenic group and osteoporotic group (P= 0.374),(P= 0.363) and (P= 0.991) respectively. It could be concluded that there was non significant difference in the postural balance between the postmenopausal women with normal BMD and those with osteopenia or osteoporosis |
