Abstract

One of the major power quality aspects is the voltage. The main cause of voltage sag is the short circuit in the power systems. One of the leading techniques for limiting short circuit currents in the power systems is the installation of fault current limiter. In Superconductor fault current limiter, superconductor element is used to perform the limiting action in case of fault occurrence. In this thesis, a model for resistive superconductor fault current limiter in alternative transient program (ATP) is introduced. This model is used to study the impact of installation FCL limiter on fault current, voltage sag, motor speed during fault in a distribution network. Due to the random nature of faults and their parameters, MONTE CARLO method is used for stochastic predicting of voltage sag in a distribution network with and without installation of fault current limiter. Three different scenarios representing different SFCL installation configuration are simulated and the results are discussed
