Abstract Low grade chronic inflammation has been widely recognized as key factor in the process of atherogenesis. C- reactive protein, interleukin (IL - 6) are pro inflammatory cytokines associated with increased vascular risk. Most of the previous studies explored the relation between inflammatory markers and the presence or absence of silent brain infarction or white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), However the relation between these MRI findings and levels of inflammatory markers are still under investigation. To study the relation between serum level of CRP and IL6 to the different MRI findings in elderly with vascular risk factors. A cross sectional analytic study wasconducted on 50 subjects, aged 50-70 years old, recruited from kasrAlainyoutpatient clinics in Cairo university hospital. Subjects were divided into group 1 (30 subjects with vascular risk factors, and group 2 (20 controls without vascular risk factors). All subject underwent complete neurological examination, routine labs, screening for vascular risk factor (hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and smoking), fasting blood levels of IL - 6 and hsCRP, and thin thickness gapless MRI brain |
