Abstract

Urinary incontinence (UI) is a common condition among women, while it isn’t a life- threatening condition, it may lead to severe medical, social, psychological and economic implications adversely affecting Quality of Life (QOL). Aim of the study: to assess the relationship between quality of life and the urinary incontinence among women. Design: A descriptive/correlative design was utilized in this study. Sample: A convenient sample of 100 women whom attended for seeking health services and diagnosed with urinary incontinence. Setting: The study was carried out at the”Family health center” at 6 October City. Tools of data collection: Two tools were used to collect data relevant to the current study: (1) Incontinent women structured interview questionnaire, it was designed in four parts (A, B, C & D). (2) The Kings Health Questionnaire (KHQ), it is a standardized tool to assess the impact of UI on health related quality of life (HRQOL) ”. Results: the prominent factors which affect QOL of the studied women are: age, education, working status, socioeconomic status, and physical profile, knowing of Kegel{u2019}s exercise, incontinence types, frequency and amount of UI. Moreover, significant relations were found between these factors and women characteristics (age, working status, socioeconomic status), added to menopausal status ,Urge UI, Mixed UI, Health perception, UI impact on women’s health. Conclusion: we can be concluded that there were many risk factors which affect on QOL of women that may lead to UI as aging, overweight, menopause, vaginal delivery. Recommendation: The risk factors that may lead to UI should be emphasized among ante and postnatal care for women in preventive health centers. Continuous assessment for all QOL domains for incontinent women should be a part of the nursing care
