Abstract
Two distinct mechanisms are believed to be responsible for most
tibial pilon fractures: low-stress trauma (sports injuries), which is
less common and secondary to rotational forces, and high-stress
trauma (motor vehicle accidents, falls from height, workplace
accidents), which is more common and produces axial transmission
of the load with the talus pushed onto the distal tibia, resulting in a
