Abstract The present work was carried out on 40 Wistar strain albino male rats weighing 200±20 gm. The rats were housed in isolated animal cages, in a laboratory room and had free access to tap water and pelleted laboratory chow all over the period of the work and kept at room temperature and exposed to alternate cycles of 12 hour light and darkness. All procedures were done according to the ethical committee of Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University. The animals were divided into four groups (10 rats in each group): • The control group: the animals of this group were received 0.5 ml saline intraperitoneal injection (IP) twice /week for 8 weeks. • Berberine sham treated group: the animals of this group were received BBR (200 mg/kg/day) by oral gavage plus 0.5 ml saline by intraperitoneal injection (IP) twice /week for 8 weeks. • The TAA toxic group: the animals were received 200mg/kg thioacetamide I.P. twice /week for 8 weeks. • Berberine treated group: the animals of this group were. received 200mg/kg thioacetamide I.P. twice /week plus BR 200 mg/kg/day by oral gavage for 8 weeks. At the end of experiment, all animals were scarified by cervical decapitation under general anesthesia to collect blood samples and take sample of liver tissue. |
